You'll face faster enemies backed by improved AI. View larger. | Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil. You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions. Learn to Work Together The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner. Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs. Face the Next Generation of Evil You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities. And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.

Terrifying Fun August 13, 2010 Johnnymaxx Great Game!
There is no need to say anything else. :)
Very high replay value August 10, 2010 S. Kydd What I love most about this game is the replay value. After doing various tasks (like finishing the game under 5 hours or on whatever difficulty or shooting the bsaa medals or upgrading weapons to max), you are treated to various goodies. These vary from new costumes to new weapons to unlimited ammo and more. I love it when a game allows me to go back and have fun with it after beating it and fun I did have. I also love that you can shoot various body parts that cause the enemies to react convincingly (like shooting a running zombie in the leg causing them to trip and fall).
The controls are outdated and awkward though. Turning around takes forever (though there is a quick 180 degree turn around feature) and there is no dodge button (except in boss fights). You also cannot move while aiming which is just stupid. All this can be a real pain but you do eventually get use to it.
This game was a blast to play (and replay) and it's not very scary (thankfully) nor is it very difficult. If you like 3rd person shooters then this would be an excellent addition to your collection.
Moronic political preaching mar the experience August 8, 2010 Grimmy (MD USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to say that this game annoyed me right off the bat. First, the control scheme makes shooting difficult - the aiming mechanic (a laser) and the fact that you have to stop to shoot. And the limited ammo, which is par for the course, I suppose. But it seemed easier and more fun in a previous sequel (the one with the Eastern European setting). Maybe I just need practice.
But what really annoyed me at first was the main character, in one of his "wait" animations, spouting off about how terrible capitalism is because "if I win, someone else loses." (Especially since the whole point of his character in the game is to "win" by killing others, i.e. they "lose".) It's sad that even videogames are used to brainwash kids, much in the way "Happy Feet" did the same by terrifying kids about overfishing. C'mon, guys, is there no limit to activism? I'm surprised they OK'd having non-Caucasian zombies.
Or maybe I'm missing the point - maybe the intended point is that Chris is not all that bright, just a trigger-pulling mercenary, so you're playing a flawed character (kind of an inside joke for the developers), or maybe you're not that bright for playing the game, or ... who knows.
The graphics are great. There was a hiccup where a ladder boost kept looping, though, if you skipped it and explored more first at ground level. The inventory management is an unnecessary pain, especially the limit to the type of items you have on hand; moving and combining items between two people and not being able to move stuff to the Inventory unless you're at the start of a checkpoint, etc. etc. is another pain, especially since the game does not pause while you're doing this. Taking damage while switching weapons or exchanging items is cheap or thoughtless game design. In some levels, if you get killed by a mini-boss, you have to start the level over, and do the whole song and dance you did before to get to him again. And I'm sure there are other irritations. But overall you're motivated to keep going.
As a "resident evil" game it pretty much fails but... August 7, 2010 Sigmund Freud If you've played all the older resident evil games 1-CV then this game is not for you and your probably don't like where series has ended up. RE4 was fantastic game that took the series somewhere it never thought it go, but it seems that Capcom played it safe and just took RE4 and repainted it, brought back fan favorite characters including a brand new character and added co-op and made a story which was suppose to be epic and detail the origins of the T-virus but falls flat with sub par dialogue in general the whole story feels rushed and a mess like it lost direction, the ending felt like a closure but at the same time unsatisfying. The controls surprisingly are unchanged from what you played in Re4 and it seems that Capcom can't grasp the idea that what worked in 4-5 years ago are old and dated and does nothing but hinder the player. Moving and shooting is the biggest gripe and although many re4 players will say it adds tension to the horror aspect, it doesn't work in this game where horror is obviously absent and Re5 in general is a 3rd action adventure and should be viewed as so. As it also has a cover system that unfortunately "appears" only where the developers placed it.
Re5 on its own is great game and adds features that make the game have more replay value. This is to be the last RE game with action as Capcom not to long ago announced its going to return to the horror aspect. So for die hard RE fans this game is one you'll enjoy for the story(maybe)but remember horror in RE is not dead yet.
The Perfect Couples Game August 3, 2010 M. F. Bailey (Colorado, USA) Alright, first off I wish to state that I am a Resident Evil Fan. That having been said, I have always been frustrated with the fact that most of the Enemies in Resident Evil have had the advantage purely because of two things: Controls and Camera Angles. I am not saying I didn't appreciate the gut wrenching jerkiness of having Tyrant or Nemesis come out of no where, that was excellent, but lets face it. I don't appreciate the fact that after an hour of hard core gaming through RE1-3, that because my hands are cramping from the constant strain of gameplay that my character bites the dust all due to poor navigating of zombies!! So when RE4 came out with it's new controls, I was soooo grateful to finally have some control aaaaaaaand I didn't have to sacrifice chills and challenge! However, after RE4 I was definitely looking to team up with my girlfriend to take on the name of Resident Evil! So when the demo for RE5 first arrived via PSN, I was like, "YES!!!!" and man oh man was it fun working with my girl, developing our skill and co-op strategies, it was sooo satisfying and when the game arrived, it did not disappoint. Only problem was, when it was all over, we could only play it a few more times before the monotony got to us. So now we are starving for more, so I warn you, do not get this game unless you want to be left hungry for more and believe me, the downloadable content is crap for fulfilling that hunger! So my review,
Every game category:

P.S. Yes it can be easy to farm money and items and such, but it is such a welcome change from previous generations when you fight the fight and then get the rewards only to find you don't want to play any more because the challenge is meaningless because you can beat the game on it's hardest with the bare necessities, making infinite ammo Chain Gun or Rocket Launcher just a way to lower your grade!
