Brutal Legend PS3

Amazon.com Product Description
Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike.

Story
The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Action Combat
Brütal Legend’s core gameplay is classic action slasher, but with a twist: ranged combat comes from your demon-slaying, electricity-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual.

A Streaming Open World
Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.

Packed with Cameos and Voice Talent
Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of Metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.

Multiplayer Mayhem
4v4 “skirmish” multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online via PlayStation Network (broadband connection required for online play).

Soundtrack
The soundtrack of Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself. The complete track list includes:

4 out of 5 stars Brutal Legend   July 20, 2010
PhillyFrank (Philly PA)
very different type game. quite interesting and very fun. def worth having around to play.

5 out of 5 stars bad azz   July 3, 2010
alexander g tomtschik
I play this game with my girlfriend and our boy(10) . It may be a little violent and the cursing is blatant, but you can bleep the cursing (Which adds to the fun)and you can turn off blood, which only adds to the myth that kids who see blood in video games will become blood thirsty,(so you know, I left it on!)I am not a fan of the upside-down pentagrams used as GPS mission checkpoints. All that being said, the game is amazing. The sound track is back to back classic heavy metal infused with the game fighting. The game itself looks like you are in a TOOL video mixed a little with Camelot lore and a little bit of Outlaw motorcycle madness. You have two weapons an ax and guitar. After a few hours the ax turn into mostly show, and the guitar is like a magic wand that uses solos to dispel monsters and baddies. There are boss-fights with platformer-game elements built in, but this is more like an open world adventure than like a Mario. There are also RTS elements, but will not give you anymore details, to prevent spoilers. There are several rock-star cameos. if you love heavy metal then you simply need to enjoy a game built for you. This game should not be missed by anyone. I purchased it for 20 dollars right here from amazon. I got plenty of value out of it. I hope there is a sequel, and would grab it up, even with a price north of 20 dollars.

4 out of 5 stars You can not defeat the Metal, the Metal is too strong   June 25, 2010
J. W. Mullins (The Stupid Middle East....Again)
I had heard great things about this game, its gotten good reviews, and so after seeing in at the military exchange for $20 I figured I pick it up. And I am glad I did. The first think I should point out is that this game is a platformer/Real Time Strategy game. Many of the fights you partake in during your adventures you are directing, recruiting and improving the various units you are able to summon from your 'Rock Stage'. The recruitable units are unique and interesting and you get a lot of funny banter from them. As you upgrade your stage, and gather more fans, you can call stronger and more expensive units. You do all of this to fight NPCs who are building their armies in the same way. But you also have the option of dropping into the action at any time and swing you axe yourself if you wish. To do well it take a little bit of both and that really helped to break up some of the grinding missions from the stage battles. Control is pretty good for a RTS game on the console, and the story is good too. Of course what makes the game great is the world you get to play in. If you could add every cool, and some not so cool, elements from every awesome Metal album cover and gave it life, it would be the world you play it. The entire game is a homage to Metal and the soundtrack is like a history in Metal, a good one. A number of the characters are played by famous Metal musicians, Ozzy, Lemmy Klimster, Lita, Rob Halford, and the list goes on.

Jack Black voices the hero, Eddie Riggs and he is the perfect person for the job. The story isn't epic, the character development isn't fantastic, but all things considered with all the different play elements, what you get is a really fun game. You can play through the entire game just doing the story line and make it through in a day of gaming, two at the most. But there are also about 30 alternate missions you can explore to upgrade gear and the like. They aren't required but it does add some play value to the game. I was very happy with this game, its not going on my list of 'greatest games ever' but I enjoyed for being a bit of a guilty lark. I wish the missions were a little more diverse and that the game was slightly longer with a better more conclusive ending. But at its new prices I recommend anyone who enjoys RTS, platformers and Metal to pick this up.

4 out of 5 stars good game with a few flaws   June 18, 2010
Adan Nazario
Brutal Legend is a spectacular game with a good storyline, humor, and voiceacting. It features cameos of rockstars Ozzy, Lemmy, and Lita Halford to name a few. It is an entertaining experience but it has it's downsides. the main story ends too quickly but luckily there are a variety of sidemissions and collectibles to keep you busy. It also has online play which extends it's appeal further but a common problem among users is that after the campaign is completed the game can lose data. On the plus side if the game is loaded from the chapters this is avoided easily. if you get stuckin the hubworld just turn off your console, quiting will save your location and your progress will be ruined.

5 out of 5 stars Such a fun game   May 22, 2010
K. Pring (Middletown, IN USA)
THIS GAME IF FOR MATURE AUDIANCES ONLY!!! ok now that the warning is out of the way, if you don't like cuss words, then your just weak and shouldn't play this game, but if you like beheadings, cussing, fun and blood splattered Metal sweetness, you like this game. This is just the right amount of funny and serious with a unique world origin story and a fasinating mythology behind the plot to make this a truly great game. Brutal Legend, I played the demo before I ever bought the game and I suggest you do so if you have any doubts, the 360 and PS3 can download it easy and you can get a feel for the basics of gameplay. It only gets more fun from there. And if nothing else this game has perhaps the best soundtrack, ever fround in a videogame!

Thanks for reading.
