1 out of 5 stars Very slow and very boring   December 26, 2002
E. Batica (MN)
Legends of Wrestling is not worth it at all. The game is very slow, the graphics are sub par but considering that this game is on the PS2 and XBOX, the graphics are mediocre at best. Also the gaemplay and control is awful.

With fighting games like Tekken 4, MK Deadly Alliance and wrestling games like Smackdown SYM, this series really doesn't stand a chance because these games are faster, have better controls and the gameplay and replay value is great. I won't deny L of W has a lot of great names in it like George "The Animal" Steele, Hulk Hogan, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and more but still, the names in this game can't hold the game up.

If there was any indication that this was going to be a bad wrest;ong game, the fact that it's released by Akklaim and as most of you remember that Akklain also had the unfortunate mishaps of having their name attached to their last wrestling games WWF Attitude and ECW Hardcore Revolution. Honestly, Akklain lost the license to release games for a reason and there are 2 right there. Skip this one and if you're looking for a good wrestling game, check out the Smackdown series because you'll enjoy that much more.

4 out of 5 stars Legends does not live up to past Acclaim games   October 15, 2002
Legends of Wrestling is a pretty good game since the roster has some superstars that you will know (Hulk, RVD, Bret Hart, and a few others). The gameplay is pretty slow because the controls are not like WWF SmackDown!. It is hard to reverse moves done by other wrestlers. The move list is hard to figure out you have press buttons over and over again. The graphics are like EA's WCW games. THe modes in the game are few think WCW Mayhem (CAreer,Exhibition, Tage, Special Referee, Tournment, Create a wrestler). It's like WWF Attitude you play career and tournment mode to unlock hidden wrestlers. There is no commentary like in WWf Attitude, You can get weapons in any match and use them in the ring. I hope that LOW 2 is better than the first when it comes out. I will save up for the game if the reviews are good.

5 out of 5 stars Great game if you take the time to learn it.   October 7, 2002

This game is great, but you have to learn the controls and all that each character is capable of doing. I played this game for at least a month straight compared to 1 day for Smackdown. If you want a game where you only have 3 or 4 moves in each situation, get Smackdown. If you want a game where dozens of moves are available if you know how to do them, this is the game. The booklet with the game is very brief. You definitely will need the strategy guide but it is worth it.

Can't wait for Legends II!!!

4 out of 5 stars True Independent wrestling   September 12, 2002

The big complaint seems to be who made it in and who didn't. Doesn't matter. The game is actually pretty good, once you get past the move learning curve. It gave a very nice impression of working in the regional promotions, back in the day. I also like that, in the Create-A-Wrestler, you can actually make up a name, and have the Ring Announcer use it. I like the Career Mode, and having to work (literally) around the world made for a nice change from Raw or Smackdown. The "get the crowd into you" factor was a VERY nice touch. Over all, not too bad. I'm looking forward to the next one.

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre wrestling title   September 9, 2002

What's done right in LOW ? Well it has a roster of 42 old-school wrestlers with standouts such as Koko B.Ware, George "The Animal"
Steele, and the Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal. It also features an innovative combo system that makes playing the game one part WZ(warzone) and one part PaRappa the rapper as you try to hit the right button in time to reverse grapples or counter attack.
What's done wrong? Everyting else!!!! The slow, unintuative controls underlie awful slapped-together graphics anda bargin bin soundtrack that features MIDI rock-type sound-alikes of the real wrestler's theme. Classic superstars like Rowdy Roddy Piper and Andre the Giant are conspicuously missing, while (now say it while pointing your thumbs at your shoulders and looking like an idiot)"RVD" and Sabu made it on the list. If you love classic wrestling, do yourself a favor and pass this up, you'll be glad you did.
